I talked to somebody over Baycon/FanimeCon weekend about ribbons. I was handing out ribbons that said Fan Boy, Fan Girl, Cheesecake, Sunnydale Visitors Bureau, and so forth. I also handed off some to other people to hand out, for example Kevin & Andy handed out the Gender Outlaw ribbons, and I let the Internet Lounge people hand out Friends of Tux. (Credit goes to "Rain" of ConFusion [the one in Michigan] for the Gender Outlaw ribbon idea.) It's more fun when I can have other people hand out ribbons, although of course it does get a little expensive. (The ribbons can cost up to 35 cents each to order.)
And I told this person -- whose name I've forgotten, and which I didn't write down in my little notebook -- that I'd be putting in another ribbon order soon, and I'd be happy to let them piggyback off my order.
Who was that person? Was it you?

Re: EitE ribbons (WAS) Re: I didn't talk to you about ribbons...
As to how many... how much do they cost?

P.S.: Biiig thanks.

Date: 2004-06-13 05:37 pm (UTC)(If we order a thousand it'll be a little less, but we have to allow for shipping & handling charges too.)
Re: Green obsessed, eh?
Date: 2004-06-14 05:16 pm (UTC)I could make the CAST/CREW ribbons be a different shade of green from the GUEST ribbons...
Re: EitE ribbons (WAS) Re: I didn't talk to you about ribbons...
Date: 2004-06-17 01:10 pm (UTC)I need numbers, Eric - I've got to send this order in.
Re: EitE ribbons (WAS) Re: I didn't talk to you about ribbons...
Date: 2004-06-17 01:46 pm (UTC)My cash-flow situation being what it is, I am trying to figure out if it's possible to get these onto one line, instead. The extra $20 may kind of sink this.
(So, "Sunnydale Visitors Bureau" was a special setup, huh?)
I am thinking, alternatively, of using "EitE" in place of the full show name -- do you think that enough people would recognize it?
Thanx
Z
P.S.: They can (probably should) both be the same shade of green; no worries there.
Re: EitE ribbons (WAS) Re: I didn't talk to you about ribbons...
Date: 2004-06-17 02:41 pm (UTC)You may remember I said "The ribbons can cost up to 35 cents each to order" -- I was imagining a run of one hundred ribbons, with a $10 setup and $25 for the 100 ribbons.
I don't think "EitE" is going to be recognizable. (Granted, you could have the whole "obscurity" thing working in your favor...) We've been talking about this for a while, and I didn't recognize "EitE" until I thought about it a moment!
I think though if you want to save on costs, you might consider a medium green for one batch and a slightly different green for the other, and make them all say "Eric in the Elevator." Or put gold printing on one of them and metallic green printing on the others...
I still don't know what quantities you were imagining (or to put it another way, how much you wanted to spend). Or when you'll use them, once you have them - can they wait until winter, if I do another ribbon order then?
Re: EitE ribbons
Date: 2004-06-17 03:57 pm (UTC)I had been thinking 100 ribbons (for the Guests; let's forget the Cast/Crew for the time being -- not necessary).
"EitE" would *probably* be recognizable to *most* of the people reading
As for when I need them: definitely by next
Let's just do 100 ribbons:
Text: "Eric in the Elevator" (it can be the same serif font that the rest use, if necessary, but I'd prefer sans serif if available, and Comic Sans would be uber-nifty, but I don't really expect them to have it)
Printing: Green foil print (if it contrasts enough to be readable; if not, silver or gold [in decreasing order of preference])
Cloth: Medium green field.
I'll scrape together the $25 one way or another.
Z
P.S.: Thank you for your profound patience -- and for ribbonizing in the first place!!!

Date: 2004-09-13 01:15 pm (UTC)EitE ribbons, revisited
Date: 2004-09-13 08:46 pm (UTC)I am trying to decide if I really need two different kinds of ribbon. Leaning against getting just one variety (although making a few of them a different color makes it slightly tempting).
I am leaning towards Design #1 -- will they be able to do Comic Sans? If they can do it without "camera-ready art" with a different sans-serif font, then I think I'd rather have that many (how many?) more ribbons than have Comic Sans.
What does the ribbon company consider to be "emerald green"? %-} Do they have a color sampler online? Will the metallic green print show up well enough on it?
Z
P.S.: Got my "Silly Ribbon" ribbon, as did my friend, with your assistance. ;-D Actually,
P.P.S.: Looks like this makes 4,000 comments for me. %-} Yay, stupid stat-watching!
Re: EitE ribbons, revisited
Date: 2004-09-13 10:15 pm (UTC)If you give me a mailing address, I can mail you samples to show you the colors. I have a ribbon with green foil and ribbons in various shades of green.
I'll ask them if they have a sans-serif font; if they set it, it'll be two rows, i.e. it'll look more like design #3. The difference between them setting a two-row ribbon and using our camera ready art is the cost of approximately 32 ribbons.
Re: EitE ribbons, revisited
Date: 2004-09-14 12:50 pm (UTC)But in other late-breaking news, they just now offered me free setup on three ribbons. So I submitted Design #1 and two other ribbon ideas -- you're off the hook for that setup charge. Which means that you can get 150 ribbons, and you can still split the order over different ribbon colors.
Re: EitE ribbons, revisited
Date: 2004-09-14 03:06 pm (UTC)You sent me email asking for a mailing address; I'd thought I sent that already. Is [last syllable of your LJ ID] @ [domain where the Gallery lives] not a good address for you? (I didn't see one on your profile.)
Thank you big-time! As I've said before[*], "All hail

Date: 2004-09-14 03:25 pm (UTC)If you're willing to trust me on this, it merely remains to decide how to break down the 150 ribbons. Do you want to wear the green-on-green (i.e. cast/crew) or do you want as many people as possile to have green-on-green (i.e. guests)?

Re: EitE ribbons, revisited
Date: 2004-09-14 08:38 pm (UTC)I figure I'd do 25 of the "cast & crew" color, and 125 of the "guests & fans" color. Whatever those turn out to be. I'm more likely, I think, to make the larger proportion the green-on-green -- assuming that the combo is actually readable.

P.S.: I did send mail to chaz, at the hyphenated domain. Did you not get it?

Date: 2004-09-15 03:26 pm (UTC)Re: EitE ribbons, revisited
Date: 2004-09-16 04:42 pm (UTC)I was actually thinking of making the smaller number be the green-on-green, as a hedge against the combination not working out. But you can decide when you see them.
Re: EitE ribbons, revisited
Date: 2004-09-16 09:23 pm (UTC)1. The green-on-green is special, and for me (okay, and the rest of the cast/crew types).
2. If the combination doesn't work, I can always wear 1 of each ribbon, for greater legibility. :-D
Z
P.S.: Thank you for mailing those to me! I'll have them back to you well before LosCon, I think.
