Disk recovery in progress. Yesterday
dspisak stopped by the office and dropped off a stack of DVD-Roms containing many gigabytes of images recovered from the dead hard drive. I've started going through the data, looking for images that are mine (or that I'm responsible for), and putting all the other images on CD-ROM to mail back to
dd_b for his end of the recovery process.
It's going to be a lot of work. The first CD-ROM I've burned has 1,395 GIF images, 401 PNG, and 6,560 JPG -- that aren't mine. Here's one of them -- the file is named "Ellie.jpg" and I have no idea who she is. Presumably somebody else whose website was on the same server will want it back, if he or she didn't have a backup. Of my own images, so far I've just recovered a handful of
animelosangeles files, and a batch of images from L.A.con III. Look for more announcements as the project continues!
EDIT: The first CD-ROM also contains 21 ZIP files, most of which are obsolete. But see below. And of the stuff that I intend to go through that wasn't put on cd-rom #1, there are 59 GIF, 7 JPG, and 5937 PNG files. Most of those PNG are knots from my knotware.net program and are expendable... The 2nd batch, though, is much more exciting. The 2nd CD-ROM for
dd_b contains 19,144 JPG files, 1017 GIF, 118 PNG, and 13 ZIP files; the stuff that I'm keeping to go through has 1380 GIF, 2221 JPG, 13 PNG, and 92 ZIP files. Many of the ZIP files have L.A.con III archives, and the JPG files include L.A.con III files from Stan Burns and Blars. Plus I now have the data to restore most of the old Loscon pages...
