The other Animé Los Angeles video room showed animé, of course. I met Eddie Smith (aka "Anti") through Janelle Holliday ("Jaestar"), when they both came to Loscon to help me with the ice cream social. At Loscon, I asked Eddie to whip up an animé schedule for the room, and he came up with something that gave samples of many different programs -- a taste of each (such as the first two episodes, or the first five). We had a bit of a problem staffing the room overnight, though; that's another issue we'll need to solve for next year.
I'd spent about a year and half promoting
animelosangeles wherever I could, mostly through personal contact. It was hard to get across the concept of a Con Suite to people who'd never seen one. I wanted people to understand that they wouldn't be stuck paying a convention center snack bar four dollars for a cup of soda. It did take some of the fans a little while to get used to it, and to understand that they didn't need to take away a whole bowl of chips and a backpack full of cans of soda. Just take what you need, and come back when you want more, and we're not here to serve as a supply depot for your room parties.
glittercat13 was kind enough to agree to run the con suite when I told her that we'd have between 200 and 400 fans... she made jokes about leaving town when I called her up to tell her we were expecting possibly twice that many, but she came through and did a bang-up job. (For those who are wondering, apart from paying for the two hotel rooms we used, we spent about a dollar or so per person on the con suite supplies.)
The other thing that I think really put Animé Los Angeles on the map was the "Costume Repair Station."
More commentary later...
