Well, that was an interesting experience. It was a good event -- it could be a great event. They got about 70 people. I handed out "Shot by a bear" ribbons as I took pictures. The location seemed to be a good choice from my point of view. They had a big picnic shelter, with enough room, and lots of rolling hills and trees and grass to frolic and take pictures. I helped decorate. Well, actually, I lifted up Anthony Williams when he needed a bost to tack up a sign. Most of the time I sat back and let the young bundles of energy get things done. I wasn't really sure what my "guest of honor" status was supposed to mean, so I mostly watched the fans bustle. It's hard to decorate the larger spaces, of course. A suggestion that Christian came up with for next time (assuming that they have a similar pavilion) would be to ask everyone who has a wall scroll to bring one, and then hang them from the eaves all the way around the perimeter. (Mark them with their owners' names, of course.)

It was a picnic, with light programming -- Stephanie Yanez sang some songs, they did an "Iron Cosplay" competition with scraps of fabric and Barbie dolls. A popular technique the teams used involved wrenching Barbie's head off so they could dress her easily. (But then, I heard somewhere that Beauty is Pain.) They also had a masquerade (a presentation of skits, they were already hanging out with their costumes on). Jarod Nandin from IE Forums organized a group photo effort at about 5:15 pm, after the sun started to go down. Apparently nobody else realized it would be dark by 5-ish in November either, so the masquerade prizes were handed out by flashlight.

Everyone seemed to have a lovely time. We even sold an [livejournal.com profile] animelosangeles membership while there, and I met with a number of department heads and staff for the convention.
