Photos are online from Animé Los Angeles Friday, Saturday and Sunday; Game Party at Elaine & Dale's; LASFS meetings and aftermeetings February; and Gallifrey 16. Fred Patten, pictured here at LASFS, had a stroke about ten days ago; they'll be passing a hat for his medical expenses at ConDor.Animé Los Angeles had two different video programs. One of them was Jim Flynn's project. Jim had contacted me long before the convention, and volunteered to run a live-action Japanese film room ("J-movies"). In fact, his department was the first one that was staffed by someone I met because of
Jim's enthusiasm for the project helped me keep my energy up. Even though people weren't pre-registering in droves (or dozens), I knew that Jim was counting on there being a convention to show his movies at. Most of the movies he wanted to show were from his own personal collection. Brett Achorn passed on some tips for how to ask for clearances to show them, and Jim took it and ran with it. At the few committee meetings we had, we nicknamed his film festival "Gore-A-Rama" because of the number of blood-and-guys movies he had -- but he put together a nice selection of movies, and ran his film room single-handedly during the convention. (We need to make sure there are more volunteers to sit the room so he can get some sleep next year!)
More commentary later.
