Some thoughts on GGG
Apr. 8th, 2016 03:04 pmGirl Gamer Gathering launched. It wasn’t a complete failure. For many people there, it was their best convention experience in years.
Maria wanted a safe place where she could play games. She’s a gay, disabled, woman of color, and wanted none of that to matter while playing games.
We had about 150 attendees. Many of them were women, or young girls. Some were men. Some were somewhere in between. We had a place on the badge where you could put a sticker to show what pronoun to use – some people who looked like girls were actually “he”, there were a few with “they” on their badge, and so forth.
Lynn, Maria and I each achieved our game-playing goals for the weekend. Maria just wanted to play a few games. Anything, really. Video games, board games, whatever. Lynn wanted to get a group together to play the board game “Pride & Prejudice.” And I wanted to stage “Live Action Space Invaders.”
More in a bit, I think,
