Saturday morning, after I dropped off Sarah, I headed over to the park. [livejournal.com profile] squiptryx0 was organizing a cosplay picnic to tell fans about [livejournal.com profile] loscon. (right)

Side view, showing the three tents. I had received the replacement frame for our 10'x10' canopy... )

Marcia Minsky. I brought Animé Los Angeles postcards, Kurt Miller brought [livejournal.com profile] califur postcards, and of course Marcia Minsky (left) had supplied some LosCon postcards.

Tony Benoun and Sherri were there, not surprising considering they live nearby and Sherri's co-chair for the 2010 LosCon. Several other LosCon usual suspects were there... )

By my count we had 30 people at the picnic by the end of it all.

The big worktop with the sinks we used as the buffet area. The shelter had a big worktop with two working sinks... )

Danielle Rivera assembles her hamburger. There were a bunch of people that weren't LosCon regulars... )

Generally, the larger the group, the longer the natural length of the party. (Also, the more things there are to do, the longer the picnic will run. These go together, as larger groups are more likely to invent additional things to do.) Most of the newcomers drifted home by about quarter after four, and we started packing up.

Someone and somebody. They just arrived; they'd been told the picnic started at 4 o'clock! Martin had sent notices to about twenty local high schools, and two people came from Cypress High School who had heard about it from their teacher. Unfortunately, the message got garbled somewhere along the way and they thought it started at 4 o'clock! They came by a little before five, and we were all disappointed that they'd missed it and we were loading the cars. We gave them strawberries and cups of pink lemonade, and suggested they join us in three weeks in Oceanside. (right)

Next: A milestone birthday party in Redondo Beach.

Anthony Williams, Adriana Zepeda (Yana Neko) and someone in suit. Photos now online: Carolyn's Birthday Party (04-Apr-2009)

[livejournal.com profile] divine_sage had a birthday party Saturday night. Parts of it were quite good. As you may know, I don't get invited to that many birthday parties. I've been invited to some of Wendy and Pearl's birthday parties in recent years -- sometimes both in the same year, sometimes just one or the other. And sometimes I'm invited to a party but can't attend, of course. So it's rare for me to be invited to the same person's birthday party two years in a row. (Hmmm. Maybe it's me?)

Last year we gave Carolyn a box full of old and new books; party themes, strawberries... )

Carolyn Ayton. We ended up giving Carolyn some "Empowermints" and a Sephora gift card, which came with a little mirror, and some more of my old Disney comics. This time around I gave her Ducktales #1 and a bunch of Donald Duck/Donald Duck Adventures. (right)

Tiffany (Neo_Serenity) with the fiery cake. And then it came time for cake and games... )

After that game was ended, we packed up and went home. Tiffany had kindly agreed to bring Sarah back to the house, so she was able to stay until quite late and had a good time with the other reindeer games.

Next: Driving here there and everywhere.
