Peanut Butter and Jelly Report.

At Hanadoki Con, we sponsored the Con Suite on Friday night. This meant that the regular staff could take the night off. We did a PB&J party. This is a format I've been playing around with a lot, including as recently as the previous Saturday night during ConDor.

We hung some clear and green Xmas lights on the patio outside the room, and dragged most of the chairs out there to encourage people to sit there. We moved the circular table to the middle of the room, so people could surround it on all sides to make their sandwiches. The coffee table was dragged outside to join the chairs, and we added one table on the side for my ice chests.

We had squeezeable Strawberry and Grape Jelly, wheat and white bread, crunchy and creamy peanut butter (natural-style Laura Scudders creamy and Trader Joe's chunky, and also JIF creamy and Skippy Superchunk), and some of what I call bonus options: rice cakes, corn tortillas, celery sticks, Nutella, Cocoa-Almond Spread, cashew butter, almond butter, butter, a toaster, cinnamon sugar, garlic bread seasoning, and Pop Tarts. (I usually bring the Peanut Butter Pop Tarts but I couldn't find the box that I had at the house. So they were regular unfrosted Strawbery.) And my usual assortment of soft drinks.

We also had some sweets and snacks: peanut butter filled pretzels, Reeses Pieces-flavored Oreo Minis, Ralphs peanut butter cookies, butter toffee peanuts, dry roasted peanuts, peanut butter granola bars, Planters Peanut Bars (fka Peanut Block), and some lemon cookies. I decided it was important to label the lemon cookies so people didn't assume they were PB-flavored.

I think I went overboard on the sweets and snacks, but the basic peanut butter sandwich buffet was just about right. I should only have purchased one package of rice cakes, and we needed slightly more than 4 jellies and 5 loaves of bread.

For our night of occupying the Con suite, we kept some of the Con Suite's offerings available that had already been presented. This included the soft drinks in the tub and in the big buckets (iced tea, fruit punch, lemonade) and some chips. Everything else, we moved to the sides of the room but we didn't pull anything out of where it was stored.

On the whole this party went well. A good chunk of my time in the afternoon was spent washing Thurssday night's crockpots, but that's okay because this party is really just a matter of shop for stuff, put it on the table, and stand back.

If I had it to do all over again, I might consider combining this with the Taco Party on Thursday, so that there's more options available that night and I could have had more downtime Friday.

The phone keeps saying the "Contacts" directory has stopped, typically when I receive a call. Any idea why?
