I'm okay. Saltine, my white 2006 Scion XB, is not.
This drizzly morning I was southbound on California Hwy 55, having just entered from I-5 South. A red Ford Lobo pickup truck entered at the next ramp, McFadden, and proceeded to cross the freeway -- heading due east across the lanes of traffic.
By the time my car caught up with the truck, the truck was still in my lane.
The front of my car hit the left rear of the truck, right about the left rear wheel.
My car came to a stop, skewing a little to the left. The red truck spun another 90 degrees to its left, coming to a stop pointing north.
A black car heading south at speed in the fast lane hit the red truck and came to a stop as well.
A grey pickup truck coming onto the freeway behind all of us saw the whole thing happen, and hit the rear of my car.
The airbag deployed, the pink antifreeze leaked on the ground, there was smoke inside my car.
I was able to start my car to get it over to the shoulder, and again a second time to get it down to the bottom of the Edinger offramp, but was unable to start it a third time.
The vehicle has been towed to a tow yard in Santa Ana. Allstate claims inspectors will be looking at it this week.
Photos will be posted later this week.
I am running late as far as the errands I hoped to perform today... and I have at least five big meetings scheduled for this weekend for Animé Los Angeles and Costumer's Guild West. Good thing we haven't actually discarded White Devil, the 1992 Toyota pickup truck that we've been holding in reserve.
How's your day been?
