Want some candy?

I've been putting together a tub of cough drops and candies. There are three kinds of cough drops (Luden Cherry, Ricola classic, and Halls Honey Lemon, if you care) and a whole bunch of candies. Most of them hard candies, because sometimes you want a candy to suck on to keep your mouth from going dry, or you may even be sick and you get so dang tired of menthol eucalyptus all day.

I've added other candies, all individually wrapped. Well, almost all of them, I couIdn't find individually wrapped jawbreakers but I got the Wonka mini Gobstoppers which come wrapped three at a time. I got some of the Brachs Fruit Slice candies, and Madame Treasurer came over and cherry-picked some of the Mandarin Orange ones out of the tub. I've got some British toffee candies; I just added an entire Quality Street tin into the mix.

There's really only one kind of candy I feel I'm lacking. I want to find some individually-wrapped licorice candy. Unfortunately the best (in my opinion) are no longer available, as Callard & Bowsers have folded shop.

I'm hoping I can find something at Holland International Market. Have you heard of them? There was a shop called Holland American in Bellflower, that closed last year. This place, not far from the old location, is the successor store. They have some dutch licorice. Wish me luck!

Have you tried looking at World Market? I know at the Louisville store, their candy section has numerous licorice candies. Couldn't tell you if any of them are individually wrapped, though, because I can't stand licorice.

Yep, tried them first. That's how I know Callard & Bowsers are gone -- if they were still around, they'd stock them.

They have a number of licorice options, but it didn't appear any of them were individually wrapped. Since my candy jar is a big mix of stuff, I really don't want different unwrapped candies bumping against each other.

My google foo isn't finding anything in wrapped licorice, save Strawberry Twizzlers. I know, not even close.

My current favorite hard candy (great for sore throats) is the hard maple candy from Vermont Country Store. Not the soft maple sugar stuff, this one is a clear hard candy. Ask me at a Gally and I'll share.

Unlike me, Cybele loves licorice. You might try contacting her, and see if she knows of some licorice candies that are individually wrapped. She also has a "licorice candy" tag for her reviews.

Luck! I have had luck!

Specifically, I went to Shamrock & Thistle/Sussex Teapot, in Garden Grove, and bought a bag of "Taveners Proper Sweets" Blackcurrant & Liquorice hard candies. A good size hard candy; blackcurrant tastes sort of like boysenberry, and there's a licorice center.

And at The British Grocer in Fullerton, which had a much larger selection, I bought "Walkers Nonsuch" Liquorice Toffees.

Are the blackcurrant candies sold separately from the licorice? Because those sound interesting.

The candy is a Blackcurrant Liquorice sweet, where there's a small licorice core with a lot of purple blackcurrant candy around it.

Blackcurrant is a flavor you can find as a hard candy by itself. That's just not what I bought.
